Book Fair Wish Lists

We all went along to see what the Book Fair was like. We all were given a wish list to fill in in case mum, dad or nana wanted to buy us a book. We had a great deal of fun looking at all the beautiful books and a lot of us chose a book for other members of our family aswell.

Today we had a visit from a special character Clifford the Dog. He came to let us know about book week which is on this week!! We are going to go over to the hall today to see all of the amazing books they have for sale and write out a wish list for mums and dads to look at..... don't forget.. Books make great presents!!!

We made a structure

Some of the children from our class found some bricks on the footpath. They put sticks on the top of the brick then put hay over that. They put some flowers over that for decoration. It is an awesome structure! Well done to A.K, D.H, H.S

The cutest dog ever!

This is a clip we found of a "talking" dog.... can you figure out how they have done this? It is very very clever and oh so cute. We hope you love it as much as we do.

This says it all.....

WE DID IT

On Sunday the 23 October, after a nail biting match, New Zealand once again became the Rugby World Cup holders. We are so proud of our team and all the hard work and effort they put into winning it. The team showed many of our school values but most of all they showed our new value of Determination!
We think the All Blacks ROCK!!!

Two examples of Multistructural Thinking

We have looked at two different well known structures and have come up with as many descriptions as we could. We then filled out our own describe map. As we have many ideas this is an example of multistructural thinking.

Engineer Visit

Last week we were lucky enough to have a visit from Sarah Neill who is a structural engineer. She showed us different types of strcutures and what her job involved. S.H was chosen to help demonstrate how strong a structure could be without looking it. She was able to balance 3 tins of spaghetti on a thin looking board. It was very interesting and we were given a very cook booklet on being an engineer along with this website www.futureintech.org.nz to look at.

Cross Country

Wow!!! We have just completed our Junior Cross Country and Room 17 did well. In the Year 3 girls we had P.H come in third place. For the Year 3 boys we had B.M come first and T.J-O come in second!  What an excellent result! Well done to everyone who took part, we had a great afternoon and had a lot of fun.

Our wonderful poetry representatives

On Tuesday 27th September two students from R17 represented us at the Middle School Poetry Finals. These are the poems they recited to the Year 3 and 4's and we think you'll agree they were presented to a very high level. It can be quite difficult to speak in front of an audience and D.M and R.P did an excellent job and we are very proud of them both.

Our trip to Auckland City to look at structures

On Thursday the 8th September the Middle School went into Auckland City to look at the many structures around the new Wynyard Quarter. It was the day before the Rugby World Cuo opened so it was very busy and we went through The Cloud, saw the giant rugby ball, gloe and many other very cool things. After walking around the waterfront we finished with our lunch down at the new playground. It was a fantastic day and we got really hooked into our new Inquiry topic.

Hector and his adventures

After learning about Hector and how he keeps us safe while we are on the internet we decided we wanted to write our own adventure. We worked together in groups to brainstorm our ideas then used them to help write our stories. Once we have finished them we are going to create our own books.

Remember to go to www.hectorsworld.org.nz to find out more about how to be cyber safe at school and at home.

Our Structure Walk

We went for a walk around the school to look at some structures. We found the school sign, rock wall, playground, sand pit and fence. There were lots more but we didn't have time to look at everything. We looked at each structure and decided what its purpose was and what it was made out of.
